liking a character for what they have the potential to be even though in canon they’re a lot less faceted that what you want to envision in your head
I was reading this old fanfic I write like 5 years ago, and it was a self-insert Fire Emblem fic about this girl who got transported to Crimea but actually it’s the Crimean Peninsula and it’s 1854 and she ends up in Sevastopol during the siege and it’s wild. XD
